Developer Rare has finally announced Sea of Thieves’ Season 5’s release date, making it clear enough that loot and plunder trump the concept of holiday breaks for its dedicated pirates.
Sea of Thieves Season 5 start date brings the game closer to celebrating its first year since it made the shift to a seasonal live service model that, so far, has proven fairly successful. A steadier content cadence means more predictable end dates as well as enough time for players to check out every new feature.

- Sea of Thieves Season 5 end date: March 3, 2022 (GameWatcher estimation)
That’s what we know at the moment about Sea of Thieves’ Season 5 start and end dates. We expect to get official word on the latter at some point in 2022 and we’ll be sure to update this article as soon as we know more.
Sea of Thieves Season 5 Content and Details
Developer Rare previously teased that pirates may have figured out how to bury their treasure, and we now know it’s certainly one of the features introduced in Season 5.
Burying treasures then creates a treasure map that you can use to dig it up later. On top of that, you can also post the treasure map on the new quest board, found on Seaposts and Outposts.
This challenges others to dig up your treasure. Should they succeed, you’ll earn the reputation you normally would have obtained by cashing it in alongside additional Renown.
Sea of Thieves Season 5 lets you celebrate, light up islands, or point out danger using fireworks and flares. You can also sit, sleep, and see your character’s mouth moving when talking in-game.
If you want to be stealthy and whisper your plans instead of loudly proclaiming them for all to hear, you can turn you speaking trumpet around to do just that.
Sea of Thieves Season 5 also adds cannon rowboats, which you can use both as extra firepower when attached to your ship or as nimble attackers on their own.
100 levels’ worth of new rewards can be unlocked using Renown and additional goodies are also available via a new premium Plunder Pass.
