Creative Assembly has confirmed the release date for the Shadows of Change DLC for Total War Warhammer 3, which is set to release on 31st August together with Patch 4.0.
The Shadows of Change DLC expands Total War Warhammer 3 with the addition of three new Legendary Lords: The Changeling for Tzeentch, Yuan Bo for Grand Cathay, and Mother Ostankya for Kislev.
Who are the three new Legendary Lords?
There’s going to be a 10% pre-order bonus for the Shadows of Change DLC, although, for those of you that aren’t planning on picking it up, you’ll be pleased to know that patch 4.0 does bring some free content too.
Driven to the brink of the chaos wastes and rescued from the edge of death, Legendary Hero Aekold Helbrass was reborn as a Champion of Tzeentch. The upcoming Patch 4.0 will introduce further enhancements to the game, including improvements to campaign AI and garrisons, and new landmarks for legacy factions, in addition to broadening the difficulty settings.
We’re going to give you a general overview of the three new legendary lords that will appear with the Shadows of Change DLC, including the new units added for Tzeentch, Grand Cathay, and Kislev.
The Changeling, Tzeentch’s Trickster (Tzeentch)
The Changeling, a master infiltrator known for wearing many faces, excels at raising cults within settlements to manipulate them for his devious schemes. Employing impersonation, audacious pranks, and cunning trickery, he works to erode alliances and fuel conflict. Such machinations can lead to significant upheavals, such as provoking the iconic Elector Counts into civil war and undermining The Empire from within.
This nightmarish creation of Tzeentch isn’t driven by a desire to conquer the map but rather to craft opportunities for his intricate schemes to flourish. These plots begin with Minor Schemes, such as building cults within enemy cities, and can escalate to Grand Schemes, which may involve manipulating characters into attacking one another. Both levels of scheming are mere stepping stones to the final execution of the Ultimate Scheme, an insidious master plan designed to sow total discord and secure victory in The Lord of Change’s name.
Units:
- The Blue Scribes – tasked with collecting every scrap of forbidden lore and spell in existence, P'tarix and Xirat'p rain random blasts of arcane death as they soar over the battlefield on their Disk of Tzeentch.
- Tzaangors – hit-and-run infantry that grow in power the more spells are cast around them.
- Cockatrice – winged monstrosities that vomit acid and poison surrounding enemies.
- Mutalith Vortex Beast – a tentacled abomination with a ball of raw magic anchored to its back, the Mutalith is a horror of corrupted flesh that casts devastating magical attacks.
Yuan Bo, The Jade Dragon (Grand Cathay)
Leader of the Jade Court and known as The Emperor’s Executioner, this character may appear to be merely an obsessive bureaucrat at first glance. However, scratch the surface, and you’ll uncover a talented spymaster, powerful spellcaster, and ferocious warrior. With these diverse abilities, this character is capable of singling out and defeating enemy heroes and lords in melee combat, making them a formidable presence on the battlefield.
A master of both sorcery and statecraft, Yuan Bo focuses his efforts on empowering the Wu Xing Compass to fortify various regions of Cathay against the looming tides of war. His deep and far-reaching influence in Matters of State allows him to accomplish diverse feats such as rushing construction in just a single turn, sowing diplomatic discord to enable armies to move through enemy territory unimpeded, or cracking down on corruption to quash unrest before it escalates.
Units:
- Jade Lion – a monstrous unit that recharges your Winds of Magic reserves in the heat of battle, pouncing and kicking Cathay’s foes and unleashing flaming magical attacks.
- Jet Lion – a monstrous anti-magic unit that buffs allied spellcasters, causes enemy mages to miscast, and turns enemy ranged units’ missiles back on them.
- Onyx Crowmen – winged servants of the Moon Empress that excel in melee combat.
- Celestial General – a new Lord who thrives as an aggressive front-line leader, smashing through foes with a formidable Warhammer.
Mother Ostankya, Daughter of the Forest (Kislev)
A vengeful crone residing in the ancient oblasts of old Kislev, she relentlessly hunts forbidden Hexes to augment her power. Beneath her frail appearance lies a being of terrifying arcane might, one who haunts the nightmares of Kislevite children. Her mastery over nature’s wrath enables her to craft potent hexes and incantations, making her a fearsome presence in the mystical landscape of the region.
Mother Ostankya’s mission revolves around the collection of forbidden Hexes, the most potent of which is the elusive Malediction of Ruin. She must defeat the guardians protecting these Hexes, collecting trinkets from her vanquished foes along the way. Inside The Witch’s Hut, she combines these collected items to create powerful incantations imbued with ancient magic.
Units:
- Hag Witch – a fast-moving spellcasting Legendary Hero who rides a chariot into battle.
- Elemental Incarnate of Beasts – a giant avatar of raw natural ferocity that channels the Lore of Beasts to terrify and brutalise your foes.
- The Things in the Woods – fast-moving beastly infantry killers who hunt best in woodland.
- Akshina Rangers – bear skin-clad skirmishers who can hide in plain sight and are most effective when fighting in forests.
