Shenmue 3 finds itself in hot waters again as information has surfaced revealing that Kickstarter backer will not receive the Season Pass or Deluxe Edition content.
Shenmue 3 has previously outraged its backers when it announced, during E3 2019, that it will be an Epic Games Store exclusive, despite the Kickstarter campaign promising all backers Steam keys.
Shenmue 3 Season Pass and Deluxe Edition
The information first popped up when backer Antonio Miranda posted the response he received from YS Net regarding the Season Pass and Deluxe Edition content being given to Shenmue 3 backers.
“Standard and deluxe versions released through retail sales are not affiliated with the crowdfunding campaign, so will not be included with backer pledges, however, they will be available for sale separately. Kickstarter Backers will receive the Kickstarter version, Slacker Backers will receive the Slacker Backer version. Both have unique content respective to their versions not available in the retail versions.”, the response reads.
The developer then goes on to clarify that the Shenmue 3 Season Pass will also not be included with the Kickstarter backer pledges, mentioning that “Kickstarter Backers will receive the Kickstarter version, Slacker Backers will receive the Slacker Backer version”. The game’s Trial Version, given for pledges of $100 or higher, will also take more time before players will get to try it out. You can find the developer’s full response over on their Kickstarter campaign page.
It’s worth keeping in mind that neither the Season Pass nor the Deluxe Edition content were promised as part of the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter rewards. Whether justified or not, backers and interested players were riled up once more, many expressing bafflement at the decision. Shenmue 3 is scheduled to launch on November 19 and is coming to the PC and PS4.
