A pirate is nothing without their name, and Skull and Bones is no different. As you set off after surviving the shipwreck at the start of the game, your main goal will be that of increasing your Infamy and making sure that both the players and factions around the Indian Ocean know who you are.
Infamy acts as Skull and Bones’ version of the traditional experience system, being one way to monitor your progress. At launch, the system spans ten tiers with a variety of rewards locked behind them.
Skull and Bones Infamy
Each unlocked tier grants access to more dangerous jobs, as pirates from further away learn about you. This, in turn, unlocks new ships, weapons, armors, resources, and tools, helping you grow your fleet and ensure it can answer the different challenges thrown at you.
One good way to raise your Infamy in Skull and Bones is to accept and complete contracts – essentially quests – for different people. One showcased during the game’s re-reveal in July 2022 tasked the player with plundering a settlement belonging to the Dutch Merchant Company.
It’s worth noting that, while successfully completing contracts does yield a good amount of Infamy, failing to do so means you take a hit. This makes it likely that you’ll have to carefully consider which jobs you tackle.
You can earn Infamy in Skull and Bones from other activities, as well, including simply exploring the game’s world, plundering, treasure hunts, investigations, and dynamic events that you encounter as you sail.
More details about the system will likely be shared as we get closer to release. For more help with the game, here’s what we know about weapons and PlayStation Plus Premium support.
