According to a Reuters report citing sources, Sony could finalise a deal to acquire Kadokawa Corporation, the owner of From Software and Elden Ring, in the coming weeks.
The two sources familiar with the deal report that a deal could be struck within the next few weeks, adding a huge Japanese media powerhouse to Sony’s growing entertainment portfolio.
This is significant news for the gaming space, as it means PlayStation would acquire From Software, along with Elden Ring, which was named Game of the Year in 2022 at the Game Awards.
Both Sony and Kadokawa are refusing to comment on the report at the time of publishing.
Elden Ring went on to sell 25 million units, with its expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, selling 5 million copies within three days of its release in June. The DLC is now a nominee at this year’s Game Awards.
Kadokawa Corporation has a significant presence in the manga industry, along with interests in video games, trade shows, and more. If the deal goes through, it would be a major acquisition for Sony. More details are expected in the coming weeks, and it will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
