Soulframe is an upcoming free-to-play MMO game from Warframe developer Digital Extremes. Announced during TennoCon 2022, it is the first project to see the light of day since the launch of the studio’s popular third-person shooter back in 2013.
Soulframe was revealed through a cinematic trailer that boasts a runtime of almost six minutes and gives us a sense of its world and the aesthetics the team is currently aiming for. When it was unveiled, the title was in early development, but that didn’t stop the hype for it from building up. Here is everything we know about Soulframe, including details about its release date, gameplay, and more.
Soulframe Release Date
Soulframe’s release date remains a mystery at the moment. The game’s 2022 reveal was comprised of a fairly impressive cinematic trailer, which you can watch below. Sadly it didn’t include any details about when we’ll get to play the title.
Coupled with the fact that Soulframe was in early development in 2022 it will likely take a while before we learn anything new about its release date.
Soulframe Story
Soulframe’s narrative structure is unclear at the moment. Judging by its trailer, the title promises a twisted take on fantasy, departing from Warframe’s sci-fi theme.
Nature also seems to play a bigger role in the events that players are thrust into, several animals being featured during its reveal trailer.
It’s tricky to say for sure what the player’s role is in all of this but the developer will likely share more details in the lead-up to launch.
Soulframe Gameplay
Soulframe’s 2022 reveal might have been purely cinematic but did suggest that the title will emphasize melee combat more than Warframe did, which seems to be very much the case.
Digital Extremes Video Game Director Steve Sinclair confirmed as much in an interview with The Washington Post, adding that Soulframe will continue to focus on cooperative gameplay, its PvE battles taking place across procedurally-generated environments.
Although the studio’s two games share other similarities, combat in Soulframe will be “a lot more slow and heavy,” Sinclair said.
The title’s hub world will be more open, according to Creative Director Geoff Crookes, who told the publication that “there’s going to be proceduralism within the cave networks and crevasses and so on underneath the world.”
The lack of concrete details is a result of the title being in early development when it was announced, but we should gradually learn more as the game starts to take shape.
Where can I buy Soulframe and how much does it cost?
Soulframe will be free-to-play, so you won’t need to pay a dime to jump in and see what it has to offer. It will likely feature microtransactions, and it’s currently unclear how much they tap into the game’s progression and other core systems.
Developer Digital Extremes hasn’t yet spoken about the platforms or storefronts on which it will be available when it launches.
