Focus Entertainment has confirmed that there will be no public online beta for Space Marine 2.
The decision was made to avoid diverting the development teams from preparing for the full launch; “it would take the development teams away from preparing for the full launch, and our priority is to ensure the best possible experience at release.”
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is set to be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on September 9th. It will feature a 3-player co-op multiplayer mode and 6v6 PvP matches, with the latter expected to be included in the beta.
Will Space Marine 2 have a multiplayer beta before launch?
During our recent chat with Creative Director Oliver Hollis-Leick and Creative Producer Yann François, we asked about a potential beta. François humorously responded, pretending his mic was malfunctioning, saying, “Cracking up, sorry, can’t hear you well!” before addressing the question more directly. “I’m sorry to tell you that we aren’t ready to communicate that yet, but we’re scanning the options now.” said François.
It would seem that a beta was planned, but the team decided against going for it.
“We know this is disappointing news for some of you. As a thank you to those interested in participating, players who registered via the online signup before June 28, 2024, midnight Paris Time, will receive the limited Bolt Pistol skin,” it said in a statement on Steam.
The good news is that crossplay will be supported across all platforms, this is something that François confirmed to us too. You will be able to enjoy its multiplayer modes with friends regardless of platform.
