Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 has been a huge hit for Saber Interactive and is now locked to have extensive post-launch support following late September’s core season 1 update. With season 2 around the corner, many players are turning to mods to spice up the experience meanwhile across both the single-player and co-op modes, and we think Project Rubicon is an overhaul worth checking out.
Overhauls are mods designed to profoundly change how games play and feel, so if you’re looking for smaller tweaks and additions, we recommend our article on the best Space Marine 2 mods instead. Beyond Saber’s free content drops, it appears this game’s community will be an active one, so the future of its modding scene is looking bright despite the lack of official modding tools for now.
According to Nexus Mods user Maroldx57, Project Rubicon is still very much a work-in-progress, so expect bugs and errors. Moreover, it’s a mod only available for the Sept. 11 version of the game, which you can roll back to with ease. This means no online play with people who don’t share the same build and mod, as most mods have to bypass the anti-cheat shield and online services of the ‘live’ version. If you’re okay with that, read on below for the rundown on its main features:
- New armour and life regeneration system based on Space Marine 1 and the recent Doom games.
- Increased (x2) damage against enemies, further encouraging an aggressive play style.
- Increased (x3) spawn rates of both enemies and allies.
- Increased T3 difficulty level (set to roughly T4), with T4 becoming a harsher, new way to experience the game.
- Side-step dodges that replace the original game’s dodge rolls.
- A more immersive and realistic HUD.
- Stims heal over time instead of immediately.
- Increased squad size from three to four members.
- Friendly fire is turned on.
You can get more details and in-depth explanations, plus read a quick guide on how to successfully roll back your game version and mod it, via the mod’s description page on Nexus Mods.
Please note that you need to use the mod offline and without connection to the live servers via an older version of the game. Otherwise, you risk being banned.
