It goes without saying that Subnautica is a special game. Featuring not only phenomenal water physics and what just might be the most innocuously unsettling open-world area ever created, it's also a great survival/simulator where players have to not only contend with the environ, but also have a job to do.
If you were wondering if there even was a way to one-up this experience, the devs have come up with a way to prove that there is. The newly-announced Below Zero standalone expansion aims to feature all the classic gameplay we've come to know and love, with added ice on top.
Subnautica Below Zero is going to be set on an entirely new planet after the events of the original game, and will serve as an expansion of this fascinating universe.
Developers have noted that Below Zero would release in much the same way the original did, with an early, unfinished build of the standalone expansion coming out via Early Access for the players to offer conclusive feedback on.
Core gameplay mechanics will stay the same, with base building and open-ended exploration of the frozen ocean being put front-and-centre, but devs also want to add thermal management, and expand on the game's plot as well. Stay tuned for more information on Subnautica Below Zero in the coming weeks!
