Gearbox Publishing and Cryptic Studios have announced that Star Trek Online’s Refractions update goes live today on PC, just in time to celebrate the MMORPG’s 13th anniversary.
Star Trek Online: Refractions ushers in the conclusion of the Terran Gambit arc, which sees The Federation looking for a way to stop Terran Emperor Wesley Crusher from reaching Earth and digitizing everything in his path following his merge with The Other.
Star Trek Online: Refractions Update
The new season features Terran versions of legacy Star Trek characters whose original voice actors reprise their roles. Wil Wheaton is back as Terran Emperor Wesley Crusher, alongside Gates McFadden as Terran Dr. Beverly Crusher, and Chase Masterson as Terran Admiral Leeta.
There’s more, though, to Star Trek Online’s Refractions update than the Fujiwhara Effect episode, which concludes the Terran Gambit arc.
Bird Cage is a new five-player ground Task Force Operation that acts as a prequel to the episode. During it, players execute a Mirror Universe prison break, attempting to free Dr. Beverly Crusher, so she can aid them in the fight against her son.
Players can also tackle the Jupiter Station ground patrol and Khonshu Khaibit space patrol and obtain the Tier 6 Worldrazer Temporal Op Juggernaut, which you might recognize from season 2 of the Picard TV show. The latter is part of a brand-new full lockbox which also includes various Confederacy and Watcher weapons and gear.
Star Trek Online: Refractions also sees the MMORPG’s 13th-anniversary event kicking off. Between January 24 and February 23, it lets players earn a new Tier 6 ship, the V’ger-themed Compiler Science Dreadnought, but also collect Omega Fragments and craft Omega Tech upgrades from Q’s Omega Molecule stabilization mission.
The update is slated to arrive on consoles at a later date. Star Trek: Online is a free-to-play MMORPG available through Steam and the Arc Game Launcher.
