Squad developer Offworld Industries today unveiled Starship Troopers: Extermination as its next co-op first-person shooter. Based on the 1997 cult classic film, the title sees 12 players teaming up and working together to eliminate the Arachnids plaguing the planet Valaka.
Boasting a massive map that stretches across five zones, Starship Troopers: Extermination groups players in squads of four, easing coordination when defending your base, completing objectives, gathering resources, and mowing down hundreds of Arachnids.
As a Trooper in the Deep Space Vanguard, you get to pick between the Assault, Support, or Defense class before heading into battle. Succeeding lets you unlock new weapons, equipment, and perks that improve your combat efficiency.
Valaka is a hostile place and, aside from retaking established positions or destroying Hives, you’ll also build up your own base, setting up walls, towers, ammo stations, and other structures using resources from planetside refineries.
Starship Troopers: Extraction is set to launch into Steam Early Access at some point in 2023, when it will introduce its first five enemy types – the Drone, Warrior, Gunner, Plasma Grenadier, and Tiger Elite Bugs.
As vital as your deadly arsenal is in the battle against the Arachnids, you won’t get far without communicating. The game’s ping system offers an easy way to draw your squad’s attention towards points of interest, objectives, or approaching enemies.
You can check out Starship Troopers: Extermination’s teaser trailer below. If waiting until next year to kill Arachnids turns out to be too much, Starship Troopers: Terran Command offers a different take on doing so and might just tide you over until then.
