Publisher Nacon and developer Spiders today unveiled a 5-minute gameplay video of upcoming action-RPG Steelrising, showing off more if its equipment, enemy types, and ravaged version of Paris.
Set in 1789, the game explores an alternative version of the French Revolution in which King Louis XVI uses an army of automatons to put down the insurrection. Players step into the mechanical body of Aegis, bodyguard of Queen Marie Antoinette, venturing throughout Paris to fight other automatons.
The latest Steelrising gameplay video starts in the workshop of Vaucanson with Aegis battling opponents both inside the wooden structure and in the area outside of it.
The protagonist can make use of a number of different weapons, including sharp armored fans that double as a shield and a longer spear, all of them being depicted as extensions of the automaton’s body. It’s a nice visual flourish that makes it easier to look past the rather rough state of the footage.
Using a carriage, Aegis can travel to other areas of Paris, some of which are considerably more ravaged by the ongoing conflict.
A handy dash and a grappling hook aid traversal, while different outfits provide various stat bonuses.
Steelrising’s gameplay video also spends some time looking at a boss fight against The Bishop of the Cité, a bulkier foe with a richer moveset.
The game does seem to have a bit of a soulslike vibe to it and it will be interesting to see how the developer follows up the flawed but fun Greedfall.
Steelrising is currently slated to release on September 8 when it arrives on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5.
