Syntherapy is an upcoming visual novel that thrusts players into a rather unusual situation. Playing the role of Dr. Melissa Park, you must assess and determine whether or not an experimental AI showcasing signs of declining mental health can be treated using conventional methods.
Willow, the experimental therapy AI at the core of Syntherapy’s conflict, is just one part of the puzzle as its creator, Tara Northrop and Petrichor University President Harold Freeman, who reluctantly agrees to your help, also play their own parts.
“With more than 30 endings and outcomes for players to experience, Syntherapy sensitively looks at the ethics surrounding advanced AI and explores a variety of topics related to mental health. The game asks wider questions of its audience and the moral behavior of humans, as they design and construct artificially intelligent beings.”, reads an emailed press release.
Syntherapy Release Date
Syntherapy relies on traditional visual novel gameplay elements to which it adds a “complex loyalty management system that takes player choices, play style, and chosen topics into account”.
Syntherapy will be fully voiced and is headed to Steam on Thursday, October 15. You can get an early taste of what the game has to offer by trying out its free demo.
