The long and bumpy road to System Shock Remastered’s release is coming to an end this year, publisher and developer Nightdive Studios announced today. The title’s final demo is now available on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store, showcasing a bunch of new features.
System Shock Remastered pre-orders are also live on all three storefronts. The title is currently aiming for a “late Summer 2021” release according to the developer.
Work on rebooting the PC classic for a more modern audience began five years ago. In 2018, development was restarted as a result of feature creep, making fans uneasy. Kickstarter updates didn’t stop, shedding light on how development was progressing.
“Our development road was bumpy (to say the least) - but ultimately what you’re playing is the vision and experience we set out to create and the adversity and challenges we’ve faced along the way has only improved the final game. The team has evolved and grown considerably and we hope that the end product will meet your expectations,” the developer said in today’s Kickstarter update.
The System Shock Remastered final demo comes with a swathe of new features, including a cyberspace level, dismemberment, proximity mines, difficulty modes, destructibility, DLSS support, and more.
