Twin-stick shooter The Ascent is out now, seeing players blast their way across the sprawling cyberpunk world of Veles as newly freed slaves, following the collapse of the megacorporation that previously owned them. While some will choose to do so on their own, others will likely turn to the game’s co-op mode, asking themselves whether or not cross-platform support is available at launch.
The Ascent is available on both PC and Xbox Series X/S, also via Game Pass, and the inclusion of crossplay would help bridge the gap between the two platforms. Here’s what you need to know about cross-platform support in Curve Digital and Neon Giant’s latest release.
Cross-platform support is, indeed, part of the list of launch features in The Ascent. Unfortunately, it doesn’t extend to all of its players, and Steam owners will find themselves left out, at least for the time being.
“The Ascent has cross-play between Windows 10 and the Xbox platforms (Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S/X),” a developer explained when a user brought up the matter on Steam. “However, there is no cross-play between Steam and the Xbox platforms.”
Whether or not The Ascent’s crossplay will grow to include Steam in the future remains to be seen. If you plan on playing alongside friends, make sure all of you either purchase the game on Steam or through Microsoft’s ecosystem, be that Game Pass or the Microsoft Store.
We’ll keep you updated on any changes regarding The Ascent’s cross-platform support as soon as we learn more about them.
