You might have heard of these already. Easter eggs are common in video games. They’re often super fun and rewarding to find, too. G2A helps us take a look at some of the most awesome easter eggs in the last decade.
What exactly are video game easter eggs? They’re essentially funny and interesting pieces of information that often serve as an in-joke or a reference to other games, movies, and songs. They can also present themselves in wacky or weird ways. Sometimes, the easter egg might “spoil” the plot of a future game. As you will see, they come in all shapes and sizes.
While it is commonly believed that the famous easter egg in Adventure (1980), a game for Atari 2600, was the first one (you know, the secret room where you can find Warren Robinett’s credit – Atari did not list the names of the programmers at that time), there are some earlier examples. In Moonlander (1973), you can find a McDonald’s – this is the earliest known easter egg. Hundreds of such secrets lie in wait for gamers inquisitive enough to discover them, as many of the oldest easter eggs have only been revealed quite recently.
What about some modern examples? We’ve picked a bunch of the best of these so that you can enjoy the ingenuity and sense of humor of video game developers today.
Battlefield V
DICE’s WW2-themed first-person shooter packs some truly interesting easter eggs for sure. For example, the Wake Island map features the famous crab rave. Just find a couple of crabs that let you approach them, and they’ll appear next to a commemorative plaque dedicated to die-hard fans of the series. Next, you need to find a pair of headphones that will let you listen to morse code off a radio station which, will reveal the locations of some vinyl records. Find them all, return to the plaque and voila! Enjoy the crab rave!
There are also a bunch of other easter eggs that you can find in the game, including the finger gun (obtainable via a secret dig site). But the one that takes the cake is the Legendary desert outfit; Eidolon. It’s unlockable through completing a special challenge that involves accessing it via a special morse code – “-…-“ – that you input in the main menu. Once that’s done, you can complete the challenge in a group of four. It’s one heck of a mission!
These are just a few of the Easter eggs that you can find in Battlefield V. Want to find more? Be sure to check out the entire franchise on G2A.COM and grab some good deals while you’re at it!
Grand Theft Auto V
This game is also one of the best examples of titles simply riddled with easter eggs. There are too many to count, so we’ll stick to just a few. Bigfoot, UFOs, a reference to the ending of Thelma and Louise, and those are just to name a few – there’s just so much to find in GTA V.

Just Cause 4
The Just Cause games are wondrously over-the-top and so are the easter eggs that you can find in them. JC4 is packed with some of the most spectacular examples hidden within the open world of the game.
Somewhere hidden in Solís, a fictional South American country that serves as the setting, is a dinosaur enclosure from Jurassic Park, a miniature off-roader, a recreation of A-Ha’s famous “Take On Me” music video (with hand-drawn visuals and all that jazz), as well as a hidden mini-game: a take on Getting Over It, complete with commentary by Bennett Foddy, the creator of the original.
As you can see, ridiculousness knows no bounds in Just Cause 4 and it’s only a fraction of what you can find in this action-adventure title. If you want to explore Solís and discover the easter eggs there on your own, head over to G2A.COM to grab your copy with a sweet discount, to boot.
Borderlands 2
This game also features quite a selection of some fantastic easter eggs. The best one you ask? We think it’s the Minecraft reference. In Caustic Caverns, there’s a cave with a bunch of Creepers led by a Badass Creeper, as well as some blocks, like coal, dirt, and Eridium (unique to Borderlands 2). Shoot them all for some nice drops, including Minecraft-themed skins and heads.
Speaking of drops, how about a nice price drop on Borderlands 2 at G2A.COM?
Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt RED’s latest opus magnum also boasts quite a collection of easter eggs. People say that there are over a hundred of these, but the one that stands out above the rest is the Hideo Kojima cameo.
If you want to find and meet the famous video game designer, you can make this happen during a mission titled The Heist. Once you check into a hotel, head to the hotel bar and have a look around. You’ll find The Man sitting and talking to a bunch of people.
There’s also a reference to one of Kojima’s other games, Death Stranding, which you can find while completing The Hunt. There’s a room with two robotic arms and between them, you’ll find a pedestal with a BB from DS.
