PC gamers are no strangers to adding up their DLC costs, but unless you’re a Sims player you probably have it easy. The Sims 4 franchise is currently on sale over on Steam, and even with 20-30% off the DLCs, the Add all DLC to Cart is still mindblowing, coming to a total of £471.46 - without the base game.
The Sims community has always been divided on the costs of these addons, but you have to remember they come out just one at a time, over many years, meaning it’s more palatable for those who got in on the ground floor. For those jumping into the Sims for the first time though, the price tag can put them off immediately.
That’s not to say there isn’t value there, and several of the DLC add new core mechanics to an already fleshed out game, really upping the immersion factor. That said, we’d have to caution against the Stuff Packs. There’s 14 of them in total and at retail, that’s £9.99 each for stuff you can get for free from the fantastic modding community.

As for the rest, even a seasoned veteran might not need the Seasons DLC or any at all. You’re free to choose whichever catch your eye and if you don’t want to Dine Out with your Sims, you could always Get Together instead. There’s so much to do that a casual gamer will never get through them all anyway.
It’s perhaps this pick and mix bag of flavour that keeps people attached to the series in the first place and if you want to browse for yourself you can do so over on Steam or pop over to EA where they offer a choice of platforms to game on.
