The latest expansion for The Surge, the sci-fi Dark Souls-em-up from the creators of Lords of the Fallen, is out now - and it's Western-themed. The Surge Wild West DLC is called The Good, the Bad, and the Augmented, and you can check out the launch trailer below.
It's out now on PC, Xbox One and PS4 and costs £8.99/$9.99. The new expansion was something of surprise announcement, seeing as it'll come out despite The Surge 2 being well into production.
The new DLC may not be quite as expansive as previous The Surge expansion A Walk In The Park, which we really enjoyed. It's described as "a series of training rooms" with various modifiers, stages, and bosses, which makes it sound more combat-focused and less exploratory than the main game or A Walk In The Park. The trailer seems to confirm that, with the DLC taking place over episodes. The modifiers look excellent though, including such fun changes as a black & white camera and a fire-pit just opening up randomly now and again.
From the press release:
"Enter the bowels of the CREO facility and explore an old and abandoned Quality Assurance lab created to push CREO’s tech to the limit. Warren will face Dr. Rischboter’s deadly test chambers that, for some reason, feel like torn straight out of a twisted Wild West TV show!"
It's also something of a surprise, not just because of the impending release of the sequel, but because The Surge received a Complete Edition in December. You don't usually release a "complete edition" if you're planning to release new DLC after it. You can pick The Surge: Complete Edition up on Voidu for £31.57 with the BLUEWINTER code. You can pick up the new DLC on Steam.
Nevertheless, The Surge was fun and The Surge 2 isn't due until next year, and a Wild West expansion sounds a lot of fun. And the main character looks great in that cowboy hat.
