As the universe based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books continues to capture the attention of an increasing number of people, publisher and developer Spokko is closing in on the release date of its location-based augmented reality RPG The Witcher: Monster Slayer.
Any game evoking Geralt of Rivia’s name is bound to have fans of the mainline entries wonder about a PC launch via Steam, so let’s see how things look.
Set “long before the time of Geralt of Rivia,” The Witcher: Monster Slayer comes with its own share of quests that see you battling monsters you’ll be quite familiar with if you’ve played CD Projekt Red’s RPGs.
The twist comes from its augmented reality component, which leverages the strange magicks of modern-day technology (and mobile phones) to spawn these monsters in locations like the park through which you jog every morning. But does this mean we shouldn’t look forward to a PC release date any time soon?
While it is set to launch on mobile devices later this month, on July 21, The Witcher: Monster Slayer does not currently have a PC release date. You’ll also be hard-pressed to find it listed on Steam.
This is not all that surprising, given how it was built around its augmented reality component and desktops aren’t all that mobile. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily guarantee that The Witcher: Monster Slayer will never get a PC release date, just that it’s rather unlikely to pop up on Steam in the near future.
Although it’s not exactly new, if you’ve already played and replayed the mainline games to exhaustion, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales offers a different take on the universe. The spin-off was originally meant to be collectible card game Gwent’s singleplayer mode before it evolved into its own (quite good) game.
We’ll update this article with any news regarding a potential The Witcher: Monster Slayer PC release date as soon as we learn more.
