THQ Nordic announced today that it has acquired the Carmageddon IP from Stainless Games.
This is yet another step in the publisher’s efforts of obtaining the rights to a good number of older IPs over the past few years. Other names include Alone In The Dark, Kingdoms of Amalur alongside Novalogic’s entire catalog.
Carmageddon first saw the light of day back in 1997. A 3D vehicular combat game, players could forego traditional means of winning races by smashing their opponents to bits or killing all pedestrians on the map. Its violent content saw it subjected to censorship in certain countries.
The most recent entry in the series is Carmageddon: Max Damage, an updated version of 2015’s Carmageddon: Reincarnation. Both were developed by Stainless Games and aimed to acquaint modern audiences with the old titles’ brand of mayhem.
THQ Nordic has not given any details regarding a potential new Carmageddon title following the acquisition, although it’s probably safe to expect an announcement at some point in the future.
