Publisher THQ Nordic is gauging interest in a remake of the original Gothic through a playable teaser available now on Steam.
Depending on the feedback received by players, the Gothic remake could see development begin at THQ Nordic’s new Barcelona studio.
THQ Nordic Considering Gothic Remake
The publisher says that the Gothic playable teaser should already show up in your library as long as you own a Piranha Bytes game on Steam.
This hasn’t happened for us yet, so here’s a handy download link for the Gothic playable teaser. In terms of size, it’s just shy of 10GB.
The prototype lets players explore the Mining Colony of Khorinis for about two hours after which you will be asked to complete a survey that will end up determining whether or not the Gothic remake will happen.
It’s worth noting that Piranha Bytes won’t be involved in the project as the developer is already working on a project due to be announced next year.
Should the Gothic remake get the green light, it will keep “the story, the setting, the atmosphere, the music and the world of Gothic”, and build everything else, including game systems, from scratch using the Unreal 4 engine.
