Creative Assembly received significant criticism from Review journalists and its dedicated community when it launched Total War Pharaoh, as it was hailed as a lackluster interpretation of ancient Egypt that offered nothing new for the series, with our very own Fran J. Ruiz claiming it “plays things too safe for the most demanding fans of the series”.
The upcoming Dynasties update, slated for release later this month, is shaping up to be one of the game’s most substantial updates yet. Creative Assembly aims to reengage early adopters on Steam and give the game some much-deserved scope.
Updated on 23rd July with pre-load details.
Total War Pharaoh Dynasties Release Date
Total War Pharaoh Dynasties will be released on the 25th of July as a free update at 3pm BST. Dynasties will be downloaded as a separate app on Steam, requiring 80GB of space.
“From the outset of our design journey on Total War: PHARAOH, our vision has always been to deliver a grand-scale recreation of the turbulent Bronze Age Collapse; one brimming with historical intrigue, authentic representations of iconic civilisation, and a sandbox theatre that allows you to rewrite the course of human history,” said Game Director, Todor Nikolov.
Total War Pharaoh Dynasties will add four of the world’s most iconic cultures to the rooster list, giving players more choices to hold back the cataclysmic events of the Bronze-Age Collapse: Babylon, Assyria, Mycenae and Troy.
25 minor factions have been added, such as the Aeolians led by the fabled Achilles, or Napata led by the warrior-king Memnon.
The campaign map has been expanded in the Dynasties update, almost doubling the size, and adding 168 new settlements, new historical landmarks, new victory objectives, and more to the world map. Creative Assembly has established new Sea Lanes to speed up fleets carrying armies, so you can raid and pillage parts of the map more quickly.
A new Dynasty system has been introduced, giving you the option to arrange marriages, order assassinations, and feel the pain of heroic death on the battlefield with a percentage chance that your soldiers can kill (or be killed) in one attack. Old age can end your legacy, but start a family tree so your dynasty can live on.
Full list of new additions:
- 4 new major factions
- 25 new minor factions
- 150+ new and reworked units including cavalry
- 168 new settlements Expanded Campaign map (1.8x bigger)
- New battle mechanics e.g. Lethality
- New DYNASTIES family tree system
- Fixes for Legacy bugs
The modding community will need to download a new version of the Assembly Kit and update their mods for them to function.
This will be the final content update released for Total War Pharaoh, although Creative Assembly says it remains committed to patching and fixing the game when needed.
“We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved and whilst this will be our final content addition, we hope it serves as a love letter that encapsulates our continued passion for this wonderful age.” Nikolov concluded.
