Publisher Sega and developer Creative Assembly today announced that Total War: Warhammer 3’s first post-launch DLC, the Champions of Chaos Lords Pack, has locked down its release date to August 23. It releases alongside the highly anticipated beta of the Immortal Empires combined map.
Total War: Warhammer 3’s Champions of Chaos Lords Pack introduces four new playable Legendary Lords for the Warriors of Chaos race, each dedicated to one of the four Chaos Gods. The first revealed was Azazel, Prince of Damnation, who is prepared to please Slaanesh by seducing other factions and eliminating his enemies.

Up close, he uses the Temptator ability to receive a ward save and reflect any damage back at enemies who attack him. He also has access to spells from the Lore of Slaanesh and an easier time seducing Empire, Bretonnia, Kislev, and Cathay units.
The second, Festus, the Leechlord, uses his Healing Elixirs ability to replenish the hit points of his own combatants. The Harbinger of Pestilence ability then deals damage to enemy combatants, with the catch that only one of the two can be active at any given time.
The DLC’s characters have no interest in deciding Ursun’s fate. Instead, their gaze is fixed on the ancient city of Zanbaijin, where the souls of those who fall in endless clashes between the servants of Chaos are trapped inside the Altar of Battle.
Ursun’s roar has led to the altar’s seals becoming fragile, which prompts the four lords to attempt to claim the souls inside for their patron god.
Total War: Warhammer 3’s Champions of Chaos campaign also features new mechanics. Slaying enemies earns you souls, which you can then spend on Chaos Gifts to either reinforce or empower your armies.
Special Dark Fortress regions mostly found in the Chaos Wastes and the Norscan homelands can be occupied, enabling the construction of a powerful stronghold.
Taking over a Dark Fortress in a Norscan homeland capital, also gains you the respective Norscan faction as an eternal vassal while you hold control of the region.
Champions of Chaos units – the DLC includes more than fifty new ones – are recruited instantly, can ascend the ranks of Chaos and be dedicated to specific gods, akin to heroes and lords.
Lastly, spending Souls on your Chaos Lords and Chaos Sorcerer Lords allows you to promote them to Daemon Princes.
Aside from being accompanied by the Immortal Empires’ beta, Total War: Warhammer III’s Champions of Chaos August 23 release date also marks the launch of the Blood for the Blood God DLC.
The Warriors of Chaos race is also being reworked to have all of the mechanics mentioned above. The free Marked Chaos Warriors DLC then further expands their roster with three Warriors of Chaos variants (great weapons for Nurgle, hellscourges for Slaanesh, and halberds for Tzeentch).
You can check out the trailer introducing Azazel below. The remaining three Legendary Lords will be revealed over the course of the coming weeks.
