Total War: Warhammer 3 won’t get Khuresh, Ind, and Nippon as playable races anytime soon, according to Principal Writer Andy Hall, who shot down rumors that they were part of the game’s post-launch content plans.
In an interview with YouTuber Italian Spartacus, Hall clarified that Creative Assembly’s focus lies elsewhere, including on fleshing out Grand Cathay. The race’s appearance in Total War: Warhammer 3 will be the first time it receives a fully-fledged army roster and its own mechanics, after previously playing more of a worldbuilding role in the Warhammer Fantasy universe.
“We’re never gonna say never because there should always be the opportunity to bring these new races in or new nations […] but, you know, I’ve seen the road map and these nations aren’t on there now. There is (sic!) no plans to do them in the immediate or even long-term future, Hall said.
“We’ve still go so much to do with Cathay. Honestly, the stuff I’ve seen it’ll curl your toes in the best possible way. It’s going to be cool as hell. People are kinda desperately hanging on for one of these other nations. […] Don’t lose any sleep, it’s not happening anytime soon. Probably never, I’m afraid.”
Hall goes on to describe the inclusion of Grand Cathay as a playable faction in Total War: Warhammer III as a “brilliant coup” for Creative Assembly, before pointing out that this doesn’t mean we’ll see a repeat of it going forward.
Even without Khuresh, Ind, and Nippon, the grand strategy game will receive post-launch support, likely in the shape of both bigger and smaller DLC and updates.
Looking at the previous two entries, the bulk of it focused on smaller Lords Packs, but both games have also received new races like the Beastmen and Tomb Kings.
Chances are this will be the case with Total War: Warhammer III and, if Khuresh, Ind, and Nippon aren’t meant to happen, I’m at least hoping we get the Chaos Dwarfs at some point further down the line.
