The Nurgling is one of Total War: Warhammer 3’s most fascinating creatures. Not only one of Ku’gath Plaguefather’s favorite pieces of cannon fodder, it is also boasts one of the best animation sets – that excellently captures the playful side of the universe’s most pestilent deity – and was, most recently, elevated to the status of a measuring unit for the game’s tallest monstrosities.
Creative Assembly’s latest video, which you can check out below, lines up some of the most recognizable units in Total War: Warhammer 3, settling the score on which one is tallest. They’re all measured in Nurglings which, although not the stablest of units, should be adopted as a standard everywhere, if you ask us.
Total War: Warhammer 3’s Nurglings like to move a lot, adopting different shapes, some taller than others. For the purposes of the video, it appears that Creative Assembly took into account the standard pyramid-like shape the unit exhibits most of the time.
The humble Goblin, for example, is a mere 2 Nurglings tall, while you’d need 3.5 Nurglings to look Karl Franz in the eye without neck pain being involved (if Nurglings had necks, that is).
Kairos Fateweaver is the shortest of the four monogod Chaos faction lords, clocking in at 8.9 Nurglings. To give Skarbrand a gentle pat on the head, you’d have to stack 10.5 Nurglings, while doing the same with 14 Nurglings helps you see things from both N’kari and Ku’gath’s perspective.
Warhammer 3’s Terracotta Sentinel is precisely 18.5 Nurglings tall, with Kislev’s Elemental Bear (literally) standing tallest at height of 22 Nurglings, one more than the Necrofex Colossus.
While we can argue about the actual accuracy of the measurements (what if the Feral Dread Saurian stood on two legs or Karl Franz wasn’t robbed of his feathers?), this is a reminder of two very important things: Nurglings are very cool and Warhammer 3’s roster boasts a variety of excellently modeled monstrosities.
