Victoria 3’s patch 1.6 release date brings with it the first set of fixes and improvements that Paradox’s grand strategy game is set to receive in 2024.
Following the release of the sizeable update 1.5, which overhauled the game’s military system and introduced a large set of other changes, patch 1.6’s release date sees the developer focusing “almost entirely” on adding more polish to the title.
Victoria 3 Patch 1.6 Release Date codenamed "Blackcurrant"
The areas covered include “bug fixes, performance work, UX and AI improvements”, as revealed in a dev diary which also explains that the developer opted for a “proper update” rather than continuing to release hotfixes because it enables it to “tackle some things (particularly on the performance and military pathfinding side) that would be too risky to include in a hotfix.”

One quality-of-life change coming our way with this update is the Pop Browser, a new window inspired by Victoria 2’s Pop Interface, which provides a comprehensive overview of our country’s population.
As showcased above, it lets us “more easily identify problems or opportunities, such as pinpointing where exactly those 1 million radicals that keep stirring up trouble are coming from.”
New Features in Update 1.6
- Free: Migration system rework with Cultural Communities limiting which states pops might consider moving to, as a measure to improve UX and late-game performance
- Free: Filterable and sortable fullscreen Census Data panel, to give you more insight into your population than you ever thought you needed
- Voice of the People: Implemented additional content for abdicating during revolutions
- Voice of the People: Added resign from Office character interaction
- Voice of the People: Implemented additional character interactions for countries with Secret Police, allowing for the assassination of troublesome characters
