As Blizzard prepares for its Warcraft Direct event celebrating the prolific series’ 30th anniversary, an internal alpha for Warcraft 2: Remastered appears to have been uploaded to the developer’s content delivery network.
The files were accompanied by a series of images that include a full logo as well as artwork depicting the Horde and Alliance engaging in a naval battle, which is in line with the theming of the strategy game released in 1995.

As spotted by Wowhead and Blizzard dataminer Stiven, the upload is publicly available on BlizzTrack. Although the developer has yet to officially address the leak at the time of writing, the presence of an internal alpha on its servers just days before the planned 30th anniversary Warcraft Direct could mean that an announcement is coming shortly.
Although it’s not quite the Warcraft 4 that older fans of the franchise have been asking for, modernizing another classic entry in the series would be an excellent gift for anyone who didn’t engage with or is looking to take a break from World of Warcraft. That being said, any excitement is inevitably lessened when remembering the state in which Warcraft III: Reforged launched.
What should have been an easy win for Blizzard turned into a major disappointment on release. In between a divisive art style, missing features, and lackluster efforts to bring it into shape post-launch, it’s safe to say that Reforged has yet to live to its expectations.
Although we don’t have official word on what Warcraft II: Remastered will include, we’re all hoping that the team working on the project has had enough time and budget to do it justice.
