Publisher Slitherine and developer Black Lab Games today revealed more details about five of the units that players get to control in upcoming turn-based strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, some of which are Primaris Space Marines.
Set in the days following the Devastation of Baal, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector follows Blood Angels 8th Company’s Sergeant Carleon and his efforts of wiping out the Tyranid threat from the planet of Baal Secundus. This is when he also tests the capabilities of new Primaris Space Marine units, which the publisher describes as “bigger, more resilient, more powerful and are faster compared to the original Astartes.”
Inceptors spearhead attacks, delivering stunning blows that leave opponents vulnerable to the remainder of your units. Their Jump Pack allows them to leap across the battlefield, over obstacles, and deliver armor-piercing splash damage using their Death from Above ability. Their Assault Bolters or Plasma Exterminators also do a great job at poking holes through their foes.
The Aggressors’ heavy Gravis armor enables this elite 3-soldier unit to weather damage and “advance on the foe as walking fortresses of ceramite.” They come equipped with either Boltstorm Gauntlets or Flamestorm Gauntlets, alongside Fragstorm Launchers, which they can use to unleash their devastating Hail of Fire ability upon opponents.
Primaris Techmarines come equipped with a Bolt Pistol and a Power Axe, but they stand out thanks to their support abilities that strengthen your mechanical units and vehicles. They can invoke the Omnissiah’s to heal them, provide extra armor to nearby units, and can use their Invoke the Machine Spirit ability to boost a mechanical unit’s accuracy and damage.
The Furioso Dreadnought might not come from the ranks fo the Primaris Space Marines, but nonetheless remains a beast on the battlefield. Its Frag Cannon can fire 3 grenades in a single turn while its Furioso Fists can pound pesky Tyranids into harmless mush. Players can equip it with a Storm Bolter, a Heavy Flamer, or a Meltagun and also take advantage of the damaging explosion it triggers upon death.
Last among the units revealed but no less important are the Librarians, Psykers who can harness the power of the Warp to cast Wings of Sanguinius, which lets them join their Inceptor brothers in leaping across the battlefield. Their Vision of Angelic Fury ability spreads terror among enemies, while Blood Lance damages enemies in a straight line. What it doesn’t touch, their Bolt Pistol and a Force Sword can finish off.
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector is expected to arrive on PC in May, its console versions being slated for “some weeks later.”
