Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader lets you create custom followers fairly early during its campaign, giving you the option of taking them into battle instead of the named companions you’ll otherwise encounter on your journey.
It’s a welcome solution to a few problems that might arise during your time uncovering the Koronus Expanse’s mysteries. Although companions play a vital role in Rogue Trader’s narrative, they can fall in battle or vehemently disagree with your choices, which is when creating custom followers certainly comes in handy.

There’s also the possibility of your co-op pals not resonating with a certain companion they might have to control, and giving them the option of creating their own avatar is a fairly straightforward solution.
Planning your party composition is always recommended, but you do need to keep in mind that the ability to create custom companions in Rogue Trader isn’t available from the very first moments of the campaign.
You’ll need to progress through the introductory sequence, where you get accustomed to the voidship’s interior and find out why the universe has the term “grimdark” attached to it.
Once the stage is finally set and you get a better sense of what’s going on, you’ll be introduced to several NPCs who fulfill key roles aboard your ship.
In order to create custom followers in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, you’ll need to talk to High Factotum Janris Danrok, who waits a few steps to the northwest of the Koronus Expanse Map located on the Voidship’s bridge.
His position is also marked on your in-game map, so he’s rather hard to miss. After finding him, initiate a conversation and select the option that reads “I wish to bolster my retinue with skilled fighters.”
This opens the character creation screen that you should already be familiar with, allowing you to create custom followers, choosing their appearance, convictions, origin, archetypes, and more.
These followers can then join your party when you set off on missions. Better yet, they also appear to catch up to your party level-wise when created, which removes the need to grind to level them up.
Having solved the mystery of whether or not you can create custom followers in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, it might be time to learn what its maximum party size is and whether or not crossplay is available.
