Currently in its third year of existence, Overwatch is arguably the most popular hero shooter on the market. If new modes, maps and heroes started trickling in right after launch, the title took its first step into eSports with the inaugural season of the Overwatch League last year.
2019 will bring fans the Overwatch League Season 2, which will be different in some respects and, most importantly, bigger than last year’s inaugural season.
The Overwatch League 2019 Season will be made up of four five-week stages which will see 20 teams (some new faces have joined the game’s two divisions) playing 28 matches. They will take place as follows:
- Stage 1: February 15 - March 18
- Stage 2: April 5 - May 6
- Stage 3: June 7 - July 7
- Stage 4: July 26 - August 25
Overwatch League Season 2 will have a more flexible schedule, as well. Teams will play two matches at most during a week, while also having free weeks to catch their breath.
Stage Finals will also see some changes, growing into a seeded playoff bracket which will include the top eight teams from each stage. They will take place at the end of Stages 1, 2, and 3. The two division champions alongside the next four teams in the standings, regardless of division, will make it into the postseason playoffs. They will be joined by another two teams from the play-in tournament at the end of Stage 4.
