World of Warcraft’s 10.1 introduced the Afflicted affix to Mythic+ dungeons, making it likely that you’ll sooner or later encounter it while doing your weekly set of keys. Understanding how it works not only makes you a good party member, but also makes it easier to complete dungeons in time and get as much loot as possible.
WoW: Dragonflight’s Afflicted affix works a bit differently than you might expect. Appearing in Mythic+ dungeons tied to Keystones of level 7 and higher, it spawns one or more undead mobs called Afflicted Souls near you. Rather than having to burst them down, they actually require your aid.
World of Warcraft Afflicted Affix
World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s Afflicted Mythic+ affix actually challenges you to either heal the mob to full health or remove all three debuffs with which it spawns.
They give it poison, curse, and disease effects, so you’ll need to ensure that your party has classes able to dispel each type.
That may, however, not always be possible. In such situations, you’ll want to make sure that your healer and any other class who might have healing spells in their arsenal take care of these mobs as soon as they appear.
If you fail to heal or dispel them within the given time, the mobs spawned by WoW: Dragonflight’s Afflicted affix cast Afflicted Cry, an ability that greatly reduces the Haste of all party members.
You can also outrange this ability or use line of sight to put an object or dungeon wall in between you and the casting mob, rendering its effect null.
This, however, is likely going to be a more situational solution, since it’s highly dependent on where the mobs appear.
The number of undead mobs spawned by World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s Afflicted Mythic+ affix also tends to differ with each pull.
As with anything, from its timings to its effects, these numbers may change as future patches get pushed to live servers.
