Blizzard has revealed the release date for World of Warcraft: Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 5, detailing the new raids and other key additions we can expect later this month.
Set to start on September 26, 2024, WoW: Classic’s SoD Phase 5 shines the spotlight on two iconic raids, the fire-infused Blackwing Lair and considerably more tropical Zul’Gurub, both of which have received expected shake-ups.

The reimagined version of Blackwing Lair raid supports between 20-40 players while boasting new mechanics and drops alongside a swappable difficulty system. Those seeking a greater challenge can activate “new raid-wide effects based on each of the five dragonflight’s [sic!] unique abilities,” as noted by the developer.
Zul’Gurub caters to smaller player groups engaging in WoW: Classic’s SoD Phase 5, supporting between 10 and 20 players.
The raid features “updated and redesigned rewards,” while the Hakkar bossfight surprises with new mechanics and goodies, provided he is defeated while all Zandalari Priests remain alive.
If you do choose to take down the Zandalari Priests, they reward “buffs from powerful loa spirits like Hethiss and Shirvallah” that encourage finding the route that allows us to take as much advantage as possible of these new boons. In addition, we can choose which boss we go against during the Edge of Madness encounter.
World of Warcraft: Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 5 also reworks the beloved Tier 2 armor sets, which “are expanding to include multiple variations for different talent specializations and playstyles.”
The alternate versions come with new appearances and improved stats while making use of the Tier 1 set bonuses.
Firelands Embers earned from the Blackrock Eruption can be exchanged for elemental essences at Lokthos Darkbargainer in Blackrock Depths.
On top of that, Pix Xizzix’s inventory has grown to include new items like the Tier 2 bracer tokens for all classes alongside relics for druids, paladins, and shaman.
WoW: Classic’s SoD Phase 5 then streamlines the discovery of rune abilities. Pix Xizzix in Booty Bay, can also create bind-on-account tokens for characters who have completed shared discoveries such as Illari Duskfeather. They can then be mailed to alts, facilitating quicker unlocks for their appropriate class rune.
Aside from PvP Honor updates, we can also look forward to a new raid, The Crystal Vale, which pits us against Prince Thunderaan and can be accessed regardless of how far our characters are into the Thunderfury questline.
Lastly, the Demon Fall Canyon dungeon introduced during Phase 4 is now the home of a brand new boss.
There’s quite a bit going into WoW: Classic’s Season of Discovery Phase 5 but, if you ever find yourself in need of a change of scenery, remember that Cataclysm Classic is also live now.
