World of Warcraft’s upcoming Trading Post feature will provide players with a new avenue to obtain cosmetic items for their characters by simply completing various in-game activities.
WoW’s Trading Post will soon make its way to the MMORPG’s public test realm. Alliance players can head just outside of Stormwind’s Mage District to find where T&W (Tawny and Wilder) have set up their rather conspicuous new shop, while the Horde’s Zen’shiri Trading Post will wait just next to Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar.

Players will be able to pick up a variety of transmog, pet, and mount items at World of Warcraft’s Trading Post, which Blizzard notes “is not limited by the current game content.”
The available items change each month and can be obtained in exchange for the newly-introduced Trader’s Tender currency.
A flat amount of 500 Trader’s Tender can be redeemed at the start of each month by simply logging in. You’ll find it in the Collector’s Cache that waits inside the Trading Post.
Players can then earn an additional 500 Trader’s Tender by completing monthly activities tracked in the Traveler’s Log, a new section of the Adventurer’s Guide.
Just like the items you can obtain change every month, so do the activities you can complete to earn more currency.
“Players can choose to earn by continuing to play the game as they already do such as completing quests, competing in battlegrounds, taking part in holiday activities, and even running Mythic+ dungeons,” the developer explains in a article on the game’s website</a>. “But you can also choose to take part in activities uniquely designed for the month.”
The same article confirms that WoW’s Trading Post “will also include cosmetics from promotions that are no longer available as well as items normally available for cash purchase on the in-game store as purchasable items with Trader’s Tender instead.”
The subscription-based MMORPG has had a cash shop for a while now, but it has proven quite divisive.
While a portion of the playerbase has no issue with purchasing pets, mounts, and cosmetics, others point out that the mounts which end up on the premium store often seem to have more effort put into them than those obtainable through in-game means.
World of Warcraft’s Trading Post is still in development and the frequency with which it will include cash shop items hasn’t been disclosed yet. But if Blizzard plays its cards right, the feature could help address one of the issues that pops up more frequently in online discussions.
