World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic introduces a whole new continent to explore, but while there’s plenty to see in Northrend, you’ll sooner or later think about taking to the skies to get around more quickly. That’s where the Cold Weather Flying skill comes into play, although getting it might seem tricky at first.
WoW: WotLK Classic’s Cold Weather Flying skill lets you soar through Northrend’s skies, reducing the time it takes you to move between its different zones. At the same time, it’s a bit of a different breed of flight skill, and we’ll go into when you can obtain it, what it does, and how to reach the trainer below.
WoW: WotLK Where to buy Cold Weather Flying
The first thing worth noting is that you won’t be able to get World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic’s Cold Weather Flying skill as soon as you arrive in Northrend.
The first character you plan on leveling has to spend a fair bit of time getting to map the continent’s different zones on foot.
You’ll actually need to reach level 77 before Cold Weather Flying becomes available for purchase from an NPC named Hira Snowdawn in Dalaran.
Learning the skill will set you back no less than 1000 gold. Your character also needs to have at least Expert Riding unlocked before they can use it.
This, however, does mean that the skill acts as a sidegrade of sorts, so you’ll be able to fly in Northrend even if you don’t have the maximum flight speed upgrade unlocked.
Although Hira Snowdawn waits on the same platform as the flight master in Dalaran (the point where taking a wyvern or griffon flight route drops you off), she can be hard to spot due to the large number of players that sometimes hang out there.
Once you’ve unlocked WoW: WotLK’s Cold Weather Flying skill on one character, you’ll be able to immediately purchase Tome of Cold Weather Flight for 1000 gold and send it to your other characters.
This enables them to learn the skill as soon as they arrive in Northrend, provided they also have at least Expert Riding unlocked.
Taking to the skies is particularly useful in areas such as the Storm Peaks or Icecrown, but generally makes life easier all around.
