Microsoft has announced that it will host a new edition of its Xbox Developer Direct showcase, during which it will share more details on several upcoming projects, including a first look at MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title and a deep dive into Obsidian’s Avowed.
Slated to go live on January 18 at 12 PM PT/3 PM ET/8 PM GMT, the event will also feature historical grand strategy game Ara: History Untold as well as the highly-anticipated Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. After it concludes, a separate broadcast will focus on the biggest update coming to The Elder Scrolls Online in 2024.
Xbox Developer Direct January 2024
The most exciting part of January 2024’s Xbox Developer Direct event is arguably the official reveal of Machine Games’ upcoming Indiana Jones title.
It will take the shape of “more than 10 minutes of game and developer insights, including details about the game’s setting and story, how fans will actually play as Indy, additional details from his next globe-trotting adventure” while also including its very first gameplay trailer.
Obsidian promises a deep dive into Avowed’s gameplay, giving us a better idea of what adventuring across its Living Lands looks like.
We’ll learn more about how the studio’s “expertise in building worlds with deep themes, dynamic gameplay, and thoughtful reactivity come to life in Avowed where players will have agency to make choices to shape every step of their adventure,” according to a recent blog post.
We’ll also get a look at new gameplay from Oxide Games’ Ara: History Untold, while hearing about what inspired the title, its key features, and how the road to release looks like.
Lastly, Ninja Theory “will speak to the ambition and meticulous care involved in creating Senua’s journey of survival,” in what feels like a long-overdue update on Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
Microsoft has also confirmed that its January 2024 Xbox Developer Direct will not have any updates on Activision Blizzard games. We can expect to learn more about them later this year.
MMORPG enthusiasts will then get their fill of The Elder Scrolls Online news in a separate presentation that kicks off shortly after the Xbox Developer Direct event ends.
On the same day, at 1 PM PT/4 PM ET/9 PM GMT, ZeniMax Online Studios will reveal ESO’s next major Chapter, the new zone it introduces, its dedicated storyline, alongside various other major features coming in what is described as “the game’s biggest update this year.”
