What Xbox Series X/S games are coming to PlayStation 5?
There’s been a lot of rumour and speculation over the past couple of weeks, ever since it was leaked that Sea of Thieves, Pentiment, and Hi-Fi Rush would be releasing on the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. Sources also suggest that Starfield, Gears of War and even the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will make the move.
Microsoft said during the podcast that it intends to bring four games to other platforms, though the specific titles have yet to be disclosed. Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will maintain their exclusivity to the Xbox platform. According to Spencer, among these, two games are live services, while the remaining two are smaller-scale projects.
Spencer explains that the strategic shift is designed to uphold the Xbox brand’s health, focusing on franchises that have reached their zenith on Xbox and are seeking new platforms to broaden their reach and stimulate growth. We suspect that this may lead to exclusives being introduced to other platforms a year or two down the line after release on Xbox.
Matt Booty’s comments about Roblox and Fortnite paint a clear picture of the thought process behind the shift.
“Today, big games like a Roblox or a Fortnite can actually be bigger than any one platform, and that really has changed the way we think about things” said Booty.
Bond added her thoughts referencing the launch of Palworld across Steam, Xbox Game Pass, and other services, highlighting that it is the best third-party launch on the service.
Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service has achieved a milestone of 34 million subscribers, marking a 36 percent increase from the 25 million subscribers reported over two years ago. Diablo 4 is the first game coming to Xbox Game Pass from the Activision Blizzard Catalogue, arriving on the 28th March.
“Our goal is not to make everybody a game pass subscriber,” says Spencer in an interview with The Verge. “I’ve said many times that maybe 10-15 percent of our content and services revenue is subscriber revenue. It’s a good business for us today, Game Pass, but in no way is there a plan that says ‘Okay, everybody needs to become a Game Pass subscriber’.”
“Xbox players should have confidence in building your digital library in the Xbox ecosystem,” says Microsoft on the Xbox Wire Blog. “We will continue to reward that with the most robust, player-friendly experiences, including backwards compatibility, cross-play, cross-save progression, convenient cloud gaming, and more.”
Xbox Game Pass won’t be available on any other platforms, it confirmed:
Xbox consoles will continue to provide a flagship experience for players; it’s where you get the best value and convenience, it’s where Game Pass provides unprecedented access to an ever-evolving library of games. To be clear: Game Pass will continue to be only available on Xbox platforms.”
Here is the full list of Xbox Series X/S games, both rumored and confirmed, which will be continuously updated throughout 2024 and into 2025 as more information becomes available.
