Clear the area | All for one...one for all |
The game’s controls could be more than a handful for the average gamer, and even more so for people who haven’t tried out any other “shooter” games. This comes as a direct result of trying to provide more command options for the players and is probably one of the greatest slips that the developer made. Instead of controlling a single player or even just two players, you will be left with the unenviable task of commanding two squads, with each squad made up of four members. You should now have a clear idea of this game being quite unfriendly for players geared towards a “just-me-and-my-gun-against-everybody” attitude.
Probably drawing from recent events, the game places you as the commander for squads tasked to seize a critical area in a fictional location in the Middle East. As I have already said before, this game can be quite “fun” in a different way. If you’re looking for a different gaming experience, this could be just the game for you.
This is not an easy game at the very least. Most of the time, struggling with the controls would be a major problem. While walking through what seems to be a clear area, you could suddenly encounter the enemy. With various options at your disposal (and the complicated controls to match), you would probably get stuck in a moment of indecisiveness. Meanwhile, you can watch as your casualties pile up one after another. Because of this, trying to “react” to the enemy’s actions will often be a shortcut for the phrase, “repeating-this-act”. I guess some missions are just worth a second run; it’s just that in the game, this is usually a forced circumstance.
Open fire! | Head for cover! |
Details and other features are not lacking in this game. Forward scouts can be sent first to assess if an area is clear of enemy forces. If somebody on your team dies, you can send back one of your men to retrieve him. Your team can be instructed to move in a variety of ways, which will of course affect how the AI would react. A lot of equipment, machinery and strategies will be left at your disposal. With these details, you probably might be led to ask “What should I do first?” and after figuring that out, this game’s controls would probably make you say “How the hell do I do that?” next.
The AI for this game is good, and can actually be overwhelming at times. Yes, enemy soldiers will do everything in their power like running, hiding and sniping to get you and your teammates killed. Oh, and did I forget to mention that they’d react differently each time depending on what you do as well? You really need a great dose of strategy formulation to avert the “replayability” (repeating of missions) in this game. Again, I had to ask myself whether actually commanding troops in the field can be this hard…
The graphics of this game are satisfactory, if not verging on being superb. Blood, gore, gunshots and explosion levels are kept within the acceptable gamer levels. Although the lines may not be seamless at all times, the graphics for the game as a whole is truly eye candy.
In terms of the sound quality, the game’s also pretty good. I guess it comes up with just about the same things which can be expected of “war-shooter” games. A few more details could have been incorporated into this part of the game though. Perhaps some more serious quotes, short quips or jokes could have been added to deepen character development? Anyway, the current character dialogues are satisfactory at the very least.
Never leave a man behind | Here comes the cavalry |
Overall, the game’s brighter points would still outshine its shortcomings. There’s still obviously a large room for improvement left, especially with formulating more player-friendly controls. However, the game provides enough shots of adrenaline to pump up your heart after those “barely-won-battles” which makes it worthwhile. This is definitely for players who are up for the challenge of making lightning-quick decisions and who are tired of playing the usual shooter games in the market.

FULL SPECTRUM WARRIOR: TEN HAMMERS VERDICT
Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers would make quite a decent addition to anyone’s “war” collection. Yeah, this game will really put you right into the heat of the action.
TOP GAME MOMENT
Definitely, it’s controlling the tank. After plodding along the stages, there just aren’t enough words to describe the overwhelming feeling of power that came over me when I finally got a tank. This is definitely a must-try for anyone who would play this game.
