MMO "in a rut," still "mainly WoW clones," says Diablo co-creator
Blizzard North co-founder David Brevik, now working on Marvel Universe Online at Gazillion Entertainment, believes the MMO genre in general is a bit stale. He feels the genre is generally "in a rut," with little exploration beyond 'what's safe'. The MMO game "is a platform," and there's many ways to get people together.
Marvel MMO will be free-to-play, author is Brian Michael Bendis
Ultimate Spider-Man's Brian Michael Bendis is writing up Marvel's MMO which is in the works with Gazillion's Secret Identity studio. It will be free-to-play at launch. Bendis says Marvel is "kind of a lifestyle" for a lot of people, not just a fantasy universe or two. We'll get to play as Marvel characters, like Squirrel Girl, he says.
Marvel Universe Online to be free-to-play
Marvel Universe Online, which was originally to be developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Microsoft, is now in the hands of Gazillion Entertainment, whom Marvel tagged to work on the MMO in 2009. Gazillion has announced that unlike DC Universe Online, Marvel Universe Online will adopt a free-to-play model.
