The multiplayer aspects in Shogun 2 have been completely overhauled, and we asked the team whether this was laying the groundwork for a game like Petroglyph’s End of Nations.
”I certainly wouldn’t want to rule out anything,” commented Lead Designer Jamie Ferguson.
”I think what we want to do is definitely expand as much as possible on the multiplayer part of the game… But yeah, making that something that happens in the future is a strong possibility.”
When pressed on the matter, Ferguson pointed out that this didn’t mean they were going to go fully into the MMO space.
”I meant that we were looking to push harder on taking TW in to the online space, not that were going to go fully in to a full MMORTS, although on reflection I guess we wouldn’t dismiss that as a possibility in future.”
Total War: Shogun 2 is due out on March 15th 2011. You can read the rest of the interview here, along with our hands-on preview.
