A little more was spilled online before the new EA site got pulled - a brand new Command & Conquer is being developed for PC; reveals ”later in the year.”
”Victory Games was created to be the focal point for the creation of strategy games for the Games Label at EA. Our current focus is making a AAA Command & Conquer game, which I am very excited to be working on. I’ve always been a big Command & Conquer fan,” said Victory Games general manager Jon Van Caneghem, in a blog interview.
”I can tell you it’s a Command & Conquer game for the PC, but we’re not yet at a stage where I can go into any details—we’ll be prepared to make a more formal announcement later in the year,” he added, replying to what the new C&C is about.
”We’re not just working on a game, though. Our general focus is on the future of Command & Conquer. That means updating a lot of the core technology to create a stable base for future development, and leveraging that work on this first game.”
The website, cncstage.com, is now offline as EA pulled the plug. Well either they flipped a switch or heck of a lot of C&C fans suddenly swamped the thing and practically melted their server. Hopefully E3 2011 will be chock full of GDI/Nod goodness!
Let’s hope they go back to more traditional base building in the next C&C instalment as C&C4’s mobile command units left a lot to be desired. I want walls, dammit!
