Gamers who are disappointed that the Syndicate reboot went the first person shooter route should be interested that French developer Brain Candy and publisher Desura have announced that their new science fiction tactical strategy game Fray has gone into alpha. Gamers who support the game by preordering the game for the full $19.99/€17.99/£14.99 price tag will immediately get the alpha build to help test it.
Fray is a tactical strategy game which uses a timed, turn-based WEGO hex-based strategy, in which all players make their decisions at the same time in a set period of time (as opposed to the traditional IGO-UGO in which players take turns making strategies and moving.)
The game is set in a dystopic future where corporations rule supreme and engage in literal corporate welfare. Players can choose characters among 6 different classes and arm them with an arsenal of weapons and items. Before engaging in combat, players pledge their allegiance to one of the three dominating global corporations, and gain access to faction specific bonuses and enhancements.
Gamers who want to preorder Fray and engage in alpha-testing it can pay at the official game site here. Desura also released a featurette showing off the game’s look and game mechanics.
