Ikaruga originally appeared on the Dreamcast, then the Gamecube, then with great fanfare arrived on Xbox Live Arcade back in April 2008, getting rave reviews from critics and fans alike.
The game uses a “polarity” system in which the player can switch between light and dark, absorbing like-colored bullets to power up their craft, while doing damage to opposite colored ships. Shooting the same color ships in a row starts a chain bonus. With this mechanic, the game evolves into an arcade shooter with strong puzzle elements.
According to the developer, the Steam version ”is the latest tune-up version based on Xbox 360 edition.”
