There will be no crossplatform play between PlayStation 4 and PC games in PlanetSide 2 after all. The chief reason is the mechanics of making game updates.
According to Sony Online Entertainment creative director Matt Higby, ”Because of the update cadence, and the additional steps you have to go through to be able to release an update on the PlayStation network, we’re not going to be able to keep our servers in sync, so you won’t be able to just play with the same people.”
However, players will still be able to transfer their characters between the PC and PS4 versions.
PlanetSide 2 will be released on PlayStation 4 sometime in 2014.
