The DualShock 4 will no longer feature analog buttons, which registered the degree of pressing, and have substituted them for generic digital “on/off” buttons, which only register whether they’re being pressed or not.
According to Sony, the removal is due to lack of interest in them.
Sony manager of product planning Toshimasa Aoki noted, ”With the DualShock 3, we were able to get analog data, which games didn’t really use. For DualShock 4, we deleted that, and now it’s all digital. The mechanism inside is a little different, and the data that games get is different.”
Only games like Gran Turismo 5 fully utilized the feature.
The PlayStation 4 is due to be released on the 14th November 2013.
