Free-to-play fantasy MMO ArcheAge is now in open Beta. Finally. The game’s been around in playable form since 2012, and it was released in Asia last year, but now the Western audience gets a chance to run around in its sandbox fantasy world.
And if you like the Beta, there’s not that long to wait until the real thing. It’s out on September 16, in fact.
ArcheAge has a real focus on player creativity. For one there’s an extensive crafting system, for equipment and food as well as vehicles and buildings. You can build housing in non-instanced zones, then fill your home up with various bits and pieces you’ve either built yourself or bought through the in-depth trading system.
All sound quite peaceful and relaxing, doesn’t it? Not to worry, there’s room for more destructive players too. You can fight each other at sea, which is unusual for an MMO, go hand-to-hand or take out player-built castles and forts with siege weapons.
There’s even a Judicial system with player run courts, where judges have the power to send others to prison. God knows how that’s going to work.
In short, more than a few interesting ideas. You can find out more about the game, as well as download the client, on the official website.
