A few days ago, a Koei Tecmo rep stated in a Facebook post that Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 would not be coming to North America or Europe because of ”many issues happening in the video game industry with regards to how to treat females in games.” This frank posting sent waves around the video game industry and community, sparking debate about the role of women in video games.
Koei has finally released an official statement to GameWatcher clarifying the company’s intentions with the game.
The full statement reads:
”The comments recently made by an employee regarding DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme 3 on the official DEAD OR ALIVE Facebook page only reflect that individual’s opinion and not the opinion or business strategy of Koei Tecmo Games.
We remain focused on delivering the best in fighting entertainment to our fans around the world, while consciously respecting and strategising to support the different global audiences the DEAD OR ALIVE franchise lends itself to.
DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme 3 remains in development and is still planned for release in Japan and Asia only.”
The game is due to be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita; both platforms are region-free, so gamers in regions outside of Asia can import the game, which happens to have English localization. There’s currently no PC version planned.
