I had a nice long chat with James Carroll, director of Evil Twin Artworks, about the developer’s upcoming Warhammer board game adaption Man O’ War: Corsair earlier today, and there was much discussion of Hellblaster Volley Guns, ork freebooters and dwarven submarines.
Carroll also revealed that Evil Twin will be bringing the game to Steam Early Access in early 2016. It’s new territory for the team, but Carroll thinks the positive community they built around previous game Victory at Sea bodes well for their new project.
”We’re hoping for an early 2016 launch, and we’re going to go Steam Early Access at that point,” he said. ”One of the things we learned with Victory at Sea was that we really liked getting the community involved, and the community for that game was really supportive and positive.”
James and his brother Mark, co-founders of Evil Twin, are huge Warhammer fans, and they want to get the fans on board to dispense feedback and advice, and help the team make the best game they can.
”Nothing beats a bit of constructive criticism. That’s what we liked with Victory at Sea, people came up with some really good ideas. You think “oh, that’s great, I’m going to suggest that to the team.” And that’s what we want with this game. I think people… like my brother and I, this is the sort of game we wanted to play when we were young, and to have the opportunity to actually make it, we want to do our best with it.”
We’ll have the full interview up tomorrow. It goes into further detail on the game’s naval combat systems, which feature volcano-summoning wizards, massive blunderbusses, and all sorts of other Warhammer fun. Stay tuned!
