It might no longer be using the Dungeons and Dragons rules, but that doesn’t mean Obsidian’s upcoming fantasy RPG Pillars of Eternity is going to be short of dragons. Far from it.
In a new update on the game’s forums we get to take a look at the various dragonkind we’ll be slaying and looting when Pillars launches later this month.
First off you’ve got your wurms. In Pillars’ world, all dragons begin as wurms, with most never developing beyond that stage. They’re quick and clever, and tend to swarm adventures in groups. Not particularly dangerous though.
Drakes are the next stage of dragonkind, the intermediary form between wurms and adult dragons. Compared to wurms, which are typically as smart as cats, drakes are often more cunning than heroes, and will aggressively attack anyone they consider a threat to their territory. The adapt their colour to their environment, and have a damaging elemental breath attack.
And here’s the big one – adult dragons. You know the score here. Huge, whip-smart, and not particularly friendly to trespassers. They tend to be conservative, preferring to maintain their territory rather than go out conquering new lands. They sound a tad less dastardly than their D&D counterparts, more like apex predators than evil masterminds. They look just as awesome, though.
Pillars of Eternity is due out on March 26. Check out our recent preview or our interview with director Josh Sawyer for more on the game.
