The team at Deck13, who worked with CI Games on Lords of the Fallen, have revealed a bit more information on The Surge, their next project. It’s an action RPG set on a future Earth that’s nearing the end of its life.
Cities are overpopulated, diseases and environmental disasters ravage the planet, and everything basically just sucks for everyone. It’s all very grim.
”As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years,” explains the developer, ”many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth’s citizens to head out into the suburbs seeking labor, aided by exoskeletons to improve their efficiency. The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization.”
The Surge features visceral and ”innovative” combat, with a character progression system based on upgrades and mods that you loot from enemies. It’s set for release in 2017, but Deck13 says it will talk more about the game ”over the coming months.”
