Brütal Legend is a beloved game and possibly one of the most well-received games Double Fine and Tim Schafer has ever published, but the matter of a sequel has always been sketchy, if not non-existent. However, in the wake of the Psychonauts 2 crowd-funding campaign already underway, the subject has come up again and Brütal Legend 2 might very well be possible.
The matter was brought up in the “Frequently Asked Questions” section of the Psychonauts 2 campaign page. The question asks straightly, ”will there ever be a Brütal Legend 2?”. Double Fine had this to say on the matter:
”We’ve always said that we wanted to make sequels to both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. We can’t make any promises but if Psychonauts is a success for us, then perhaps Brutal Legend 2 will be more possible?”
The campaign for Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 is well on its way, having already passed 50% of its lofty goal to gain over $3.3 million in just a few days. While investors in the past may have been chapped by the delays and practices of the studio in the past, it would seem fan fervor for the Psychonauts franchise is overriding any ill will in these early days of the campaign. That said, even with no promises made, the possibility of further work on the Brütal Legend franchise might be enough to teeter more than a few folks sitting on the fence about investing in the Psychonauts 2 start-up.
